This is the Conduit home of BPA's Smart Grid Demand Response Team. There are a ton of incredible developments and projects going on in SGDR and we will be sharing updates and milestones here with all of you.
So what is Smart Grid Demand Response??
Smart Grid is the
modernization of the electricity delivery system so it monitors, protects and automatically optimizes the operation of its interconnected elements – from the central and distributed generator through the high-voltage network and distribution system, to industrial users and building automation systems, to energy storage installations and to end-use consumers and their thermostats, electric vehicles, appliances and other household devices. The Smart Grid will be characterized by a two-way flow of electricity and information to create an automated, widely distributed energy delivery network. It incorporates into the grid the benefits of distributed computing and communications to deliver real-time information and enable the near-instantaneous balance of supply and demand at the device level.
Demand response can enhance economics and system reliability for BPA, our customer utilities and the region. It's defined as a change in electric usage by demand-side resources from their normal consumption patterns in response (1) to changes in the price of electricity over time, or (2) to incentive payments designed to induce lower electricity use at times of high wholesale market prices or (3) when system reliability is jeopardized.
