Electric water heater standards are about to see a big change! On April 16, 2015 the U.S. Department of Energy will implement new federal standards for water heaters. Changes to the electric water heater standards include:

<   Tanks larger than 55 gallons must have an Energy Factor (EF) of 2.057 or greater

  • Prior standards had an EF of .97
  • Larger tanks make up 10% of the Northwest’s market

<   Tanks smaller than 55 gallons will have an incremental increase in EF

All water heaters on the Northern Climate Specification Qualified Products List meet the new standards, and contractors with Smart Water Heat training will be fully equipped to install these models.
