Job Description

Cadeo is seeking an Engineer to support energy efficiency research projects with utilities and government agencies. This is a full-time position perfect for experienced consultants who have a solid track record of successfully completing consulting projects on time and on budget. The ideal candidate will have an established track record in the energy-efficiency industry, experience meeting and exceeding client expectations, and strong technical experience.

We are looking for someone with experience in the energy efficiency and/or consulting industry and who possesses exceptional analytical skills and a strong willingness to learn. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who performs at a high level (independently and as part of a team), has experience conducting research, collecting data in a laboratory/field environment, analyzing large sets of data, and has at least 3 years of experience in a related field (building science, scientific research, engineering, data analysis).

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in energy efficiency or consulting fields (preferably both).
  • Demonstrable experience with analytical problem solving (summary and synthesis of data) and documenting findings in memos, reports, and/or presentations.
  • Fluency in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Expertise with quantitative analysis of experimental data and experimental design, including statistics and data quality management approaches.  Experience with large-scale data analysis and modeling required. 
  • Excellent understanding of energy and building systems, including HVAC, hot water, and building envelope components.  Experience in HVAC specification and/or design preferred.  Familiarity with the theoretical and real-world applications of thermodynamics.
  • Strong mathematics and engineering background (STEM degree required); mechanical engineering desired; chemical engineering, civil engineering, physics, statistics, applied math or other engineering discipline also acceptable.
  • Expert use of Microsoft Excel and/or more advanced data analysis tools, e.g., R, MATLAB, Python, Sequel. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing research strategies to meet client needs
    • Leading analysis tasks by:
      • Designing experimental plans
        • defining research questions
        • defining and structuring data collection to answer research questions
      • Collecting and analyzing data, particularly field data, to provide
        • actionable insights
        • recommendations for next steps
      • Synthesizing findings and results
      • Overseeing development of reports and quantitative models, including implementing QA/QC processes
      • Presenting research findings in written reports and slide presentations using compelling narratives and graphics (please visit our website for examples)
      • Day-to-day management of projects with teams ranging between 2 and 20 people including subcontractors, entry-level and senior staff. Tasks will include: 
        • Acting as primary point of contact with clients, understanding and communicating client expectations
        • Holding internal and external check-in meetings
        • Budget monitoring
        • Handling questions and requests from clients and from project team
        • Escalating project issues appropriately to senior staff
        • Assisting in business development activities including:
          • reviewing RFPs
          • writing proposals
          • identifying opportunities for follow-on work
  • Mentoring entry-level staff in areas including:
    • research and analysis methods
    • client and internal communications
    • the effective use of software

This position is in our Seattle office.
