This year, the Hot Water Solutions team focused on building confidence in HPWH technology among supply chain actors, and created materials for this audience that may prove useful to our utility partners who have heat pump water heater (HPWH) programs. We’ve compiled these resources into a toolkit that can either be used by your installer network, or adapted and used to complement your existing communications to the supply chain.

The toolkit can be downloaded from the Hot Water Solutions website here and contains the following resources:

  • Sales Associate Pocket/Apron Card: This pocket card provides a quick reference to essential HPWH information for retail and wholesale salespeople and installers—and can easily fit in work aprons and pockets. The card compares the energy efficiency, electric cost savings, warranty and performance of a 50-gallon HPWH to a 50-gallon standard electric water heater. The back of the card includes installation tips and information for DIY installs. The pocket card can be used as reference when educating potential customers on the benefits of HPWHs.
  • Sales Training Presentations: Hot Water Solutions developed sales training presentations for retail sales associates and installers. In both versions of the presentation, each slide has instructor-based notes highlighting main talking points to guide facilitators during trainings for both of these key audiences. The presentation can be adapted to include utility branding and installer education opportunities.
  • Manufacturer-specific Installer Flyers: These flyers are currently being distributed to installers at distributors / wholesalers throughout the region, and serve as a quick reference guide for product details and utility rebates based on location.
  • Installer Trade Publication Articles: Hot Water Solutions Program Manager, Jill Reynolds, guest-authored two articles aimed at installers that highlight the benefits and business opportunity of selling HPWHs. The first article, published in Contractor magazine, outlined (and debunked) five common myths about HPWHs among installers. The second article, published in Plumbing and Mechanical magazine, examined two Northwest businesses and how they’ve built success on HPWH sales. These articles can be repurposed for utility HPWH communication efforts, such as blog posts and newsletters.
